Referral Services

We have invested considerably in our team and kit to make a number of advanced services available to our clients. We also accept referrals from other practices., please contact the practice to make a referral.

Cardiology

If your pet develops a heart condition, we can support you and your pet at every step of the way, starting from diagnosis to ongoing care. Practice owner Warwick holds both the GPCert (Cardio) and the PgC Small Animal Cardiology Studies, as well as a Masters in General Practice. He is happy to receive referrals for investigation of cardiorespiratory disease including murmur investigation, collapse, irregular heart rhythms and coughing.

Dentistry

The treatment and prevention of dental disease, using range of specialist equipment including dental x-rays. Our Vet Michaela Dawkins can receive referrals for advanced dentistry.

Holistic, Acupuncture & Behaviourist

Vicky Payne BVet Med GDWVHM DipCABT (RQF level 6) MRCVS is a holistic vet with a post graduate diploma in western veterinary herbal medicine and over 15 years' experience in veterinary acupuncture. Vicky is also a level 6 qualified behaviourist and accepts referrals.

Endoscopy

A wide range of rigid and flexible endoscopes to aid in minimally invasive diagnostics and procedures. Dr Ricardo Canha holds the GPCert(endo) and can take referrals for rigid and flexible endoscopy.

Keyhole Surgery

Keyhole is a minimally invasive surgical technique to explore the abdomen with two to three small ‘keyhole’ incisions. We are pleased to have invested considerably in our team and kit to make minimally invasive surgery available to our clients. Dr Ricardo Canha holds the GPCert (endo) and laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery.

Warwick qualified from the Royal Veterinary College London in 1998. He has worked in small animal practice in various parts of the UK ever since.

He opened Companion Care Eastbourne in 2008 and has grown it from one vet, one nurse and one receptionist to a practice employing around thirty valued colleagues. Vets, Registered Veterinary Nurses, Veterinary Care Assistants and Client Care Advisors. He is passionate about working with clients of all circumstances to achieve the most appropriate care and outcomes for their pets whilst maintaining the highest evidence based standards.

Warwick was awarded a master's degree in Veterinary Professional Development and General Practice in 2008 and has mentored and developed countless new graduate vets. He holds the GPCert (Cardio) and PgC Small Animal Cardiology Studies, and is an RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Cardiology, taking referrals in Cardiorespiratory cases from local practices.

Warwick lives at home with his wife Vicky the Vet and his ever growing pack of Springer Spaniels although he would quite like his own Maine Coon Cat.

Michaela is an American expat who joined Companion Care in 2018, when she moved to Eastbourne. As part of our leadership team, Michaela helps coordinate the clinical aspect of our surgery, including training and our new graduate program coaching. She is happy to see all of your furry, feathered, and scaly friends so please book in your exotic pets as well. Michaela has just completed her General Practitioner Certificate in Small Animal Dentistry so can provide advanced dental care and advice, including restorations and dealing with abnormally shaped teeth.

When not at work, Michaela likes to spend time with her ridiculously silly 2 dogs and 2 cats. She spends most of her free time in the sea or kickboxing, and when the English weather does not cooperate, can be found reading her Kindle at home.

Ricardo Canha

Ricardo graduated in 2016 and worked for 2 years in Portugal, before relocating to the UK in 2018. He started working at Companion Care Vets in 2021.

Recently, Ricardo completed the GP Certificate in Endoscopy. He performs laparoscopic (key-hole) spays and is able to perform other minimally invasive procedures, like gastroscopies. He also enjoys everything related to diagnostic tests, viral diseases, skin conditions and endocrine disorders.

Outside of work, Ricardo has an interest in astronomy, singing and travel. Cleopatas, a rescued sphinx-cross cat, lives full-board, rent-free at his house."

Laura is our Spanish vet, she graduated in 2022 after four years of studies in Spain and one in Berlin. As soon as she finished her university degree, she decided that her next adventure would be to start her professional career abroad and that is how she found our practice, where she says she feels almost at home thanks to the great team she works with every day.

Laura loves general practice and learning new things every day.

Her favorite thing to do in her free time is to spend time with her friends and family, so it won't be uncommon to find her traveling!

Gen joined the team as a student veterinary nurse in 2016, she qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2017 before graduating from the Royal Veterinary College in 2018 with a BSc degree in Veterinary Nursing. She worked her way up to become Clinical Head Veterinary Nurse in 2021.

Gen enjoys the variety of cases that are seen when working in general veterinary practice and likes the challenges it provides. She has recently completed a training course on Schedule 3 procedures enabling her to perform minor surgeries and wound repairs.

In her spare time Gen enjoys walks over the downs with her husband and Hungarian Vizsla, Loch.

Seeking a career in the veterinary industry, Kim joined our valued reception team in July 2019. Being on the ‘front line’ is where she works best, loving that no two days are the same and the anticipation of not knowing what the next phone call will bring is what keeps Kim engaged.

When away from this fast paced environment Kim likes to spend her time outdoors, from taking long walks in the countryside to paddle boarding in the sea, then finishing the day with a well-deserved glass of wine.

Her two boys are all grown up now but she still has her hands full with her dog Poppy, cat Bazza and Bill the tortoise who she actually rescued after being brought into Companion Care Vets after being found by a member of the public.

Joining the Companion Care Team in March 2023, you will find Emma in reception where she's always happy to strike up a conversation with our clients and their pets. Emma says she loves it and won't leave until she retires.

She has a keen interest in gardening and grows her own vegetables, plants and teas, she also loves to travel.
