Sadly, not having fur doesn’t mean our birds can escape the problem of parasites.

Birds can suffer from a whole host of different parasites and knowing the signs and how to stop an infestation fast can have a huge impact on the outcome of a parasite invasion.

Follow our handy links below to take a closer look at the parasites that can be a problem for your bird.

More about bird parasites

Mite infestations can be an itchy business, and mites like to set up shop around the softest parts of your bird, such as the vent, eyes and ear holes. With several species of mites more than happy to set up residence on your bird, knowing what to look out for, and how to prevent them settling in, is an important part of keeping our birds happy and healthy.
While lice are less common than mites, these pesky parasites can cause upset in your flock and reduced egg production.

There are many worm species that can affect our birds and they are surprisingly common. Worms can cause signs from mild diarrhoea right through to serious and potentially fatal disease. To have a look at the worms that can affect your bird, have a look at our dedicated page. Worms are found in all our pet species, although different worms like different pets!
