Stem Cell/PRP Combined Regenerative Technology
Stem cell therapy can be used in the treatment of arthritis, fractures, and ligament injuries.
Stem cell therapy is one of the latest cutting-edge medical procedures available. Stem cells are your pets own repair cells and can be used to support the repair and regeneration of other tissues in the body.
Stem cells may be categorised into two groups based on their origin: embryonic and adult stem cells. Adult cells are the ones used for this procedure. In adults, you will find stem cells present in blood, fat and bone marrow.
Adult stem cells have the ability to evolve into many different types of cell – which means they are exceptional at helping the body heal!
Your vet will assess your pet and decide if stem cell therapy is the right treatment and will discuss the procedure with you. The procedure does not usually require an overnight stay.
A quick guide to how Stem Cell Therapy works*
Your pet will need a general anaesthetic, which your vet will discuss with you, for the procedure. A small incision is made to collect fat tissue from your pet, generally over the abdominal (tummy) area. We will also take a blood sample at the same time from your pet.
The cells are then transferred to our in-house laboratory safely, where they are processed and ready in approximately 3-4 hours.
Once the cells are ready, your pet will have a light sedation and the processed cells are injected into their affected area. Your pet usually doesn’t need an overnight stay and will be back home with you that evening.
The stem cells then support the regeneration of the damaged cells and tissue, repairing the body. This along with a rehabilitation programme can help to support your pets.
